Make the Dorm feel like Home

Do you have a student starting college this September? Have you begun working down the dorm room checklist? I remember the summer before my first semester at college. Back then I think it was Pace, not Costco that had us buying cheetos by the bulk. Picking out sheets, towels, laundry detergent. Everything I needed to thrive on my own, as an adult.
One thing you may not have thought of but that can make a huge difference is dorm room decor. Just a few small items, cleverly placed, can make any room feel like home. Our lath boxes are the perfect size for just this thing. Most measure about 6″x8″ and can be displayed on a shelf, table or nightstand. Or, hang a few up in a group on the wall. Either way, they can be just what your student needs when that home sick feeling creeps in. Pick one with an inspirational note or one that makes you laugh. You can’t go wrong with any of our choices. Add a coaster for those many cups of coffee and magnet for the mini fridge and you have the perfect “Off to School” gift for the scholar in your life. See these additional items below that would be great in any home or dorm room. To order or for more details, email me at

How it’s made – Pallet Art

TodaPallet art 2y we look into our very popular Pallet Art.  Rustic design is very on trend right now. Creating items from scrap wood, mason jars and burlap are the popular DIY gracing the Pinterest pages. But what about those of us who are not so DIY savy? Well, we gotta buy it. But how cute and affordable are the Pallet Art pieces from our collection.  Each is crafted right here in the US and more specifically, Ohio. The lumber used is domestically grown.  The slats are aligned, glued and nailed together to create authentic, primitive canvas. Rustic designs are then applied to the raw surface of the material, producing truly unique pieces of art.  Because of this process no two pieces are ever identical. I love each design that is offered and don’t have enough wall space to house them if I could Pallet art. Amongst the pieces you can find inspirational quotes, loving sentiments and funny sayings. There is definitely something for everyone whether you are a Lake/Cabin type or enjoy toes in the sand. Browse our collection today and check back often as new pieces are added weekly.  Click here to see what’s available online.

Reasons to Plan a Family Reunion This Summer

Family ReunionIf you’re like most people these days, you have relatives who live far away from you. In the old days, families might all live in the same city, or even on the same block, such that adults and kids, uncles, aunts, cousins, and more would gather together for both major and minor occasions for parties and such.

These days, we’re lucky if we know our neighbors, let alone even see all of our family members once a year. That said, having a family reunion is a great way to bring together people from near and far for a time of eating, playing games, talking, relaxing and bonding.

As an example, some families choose to have a reunion over the course of one weekend every two years. The reunion is held in the hometown of one family member one time, followed by another place the next time, so that it’s done on a rotating basis and hosting duties are spread out over time. So, in 2016 it could be in Massachusetts, 2018 in New York, 2020 in Virginia and 2022 in California. This method works well. Reunions can be held at a person’s home or at a park or resort.

No matter how and when you plan a family reunion, one thing that adds to the fun of festivities is having family competitions complete with ribbons, custom awards and/or medals from Awards & More. Who is the fastest runner in a race you have down the driveway? Who is the best dancer? Who is the best cook? Awards & More offers a variety of ribbons, custom awards and/or medals to highlight family members during your reunion! These tokens of appreciation will then end up on the shelves of various family members’ homes serving as nice mementos of time spent together at the wonderful family reunion.

Gift Ideas for the Graduate in Your Life

Graduates It’s that time of the year, again, when numerous schools hold graduation ceremonies in gymnasiums and auditoriums across the country.

With the school year coming to a close, what can you get the graduate in your life to show them you appreciate all the hard work they’ve done over the years to finally get to this point?

Awards & More offers numerous resin figures and awards that make nice gifts for graduates. Perhaps the most popular graphic on various scholastic achievement awards is the “lamp of knowledge,” which graces the Gold Star Knowledge Award, for example. The word “knowledge” is written across a gold tone banner at the top, while gold stars against a black background follow the same arc. At 7 inches tall, there’s room to personalize this award with your graduate’s name on it!

Indeed, Awards & More is known for customizable gifts for grads such that you can have their name emblazoned on the specific gift you give them.

One of the more fun grad gifts are the unique male and female graduate bobbleheads. They’re silver with gold trim and sit on an antique gold base. If your grad is a playful person with a good sense of humor, a bobblehead figure makes a good graduation gift.

You can see the various “scholastic awards” available here:

Finally, consider the Signature Series Knowledge Shield Award. This one’s particularly impressive looking, complete with the iconic lamp of knowledge sitting on a pedestal along with books that are raised in such a manner that the award has a 3D look to it. If you want, choose a 2 inch Mylar to highlight a specific achievement of your graduate or leave the space to show a grad cap and rolled diploma. There’s space at the bottom for a person’s name, and with its gold and pewter look, this unique graduation gift item stands out from the other gifts your grad will receive.

As is the case with any eventful day, people tend to want to commemorate the special event and have a memento that encapsulates that special moment in time.

Ribbons Are Useful For a Variety of Occasions

Awards & More knows that people love receiving recognition for a job well done. Awards & More supplies many people with ribbons, which can be used to signify 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, etc.

Ribbons are something a team leader, coach or person in charge of a group can give out to participants to show they performed well at things like sports, academic achievement, and/or sales.

In modern times, ribbons got their start in England during the Middle Ages. At the time, merchants would travel from city to city across Europe selling exotic ribbons made from silk. They were considered luxury items of the day because very few people had them or could afford them. Additionally, the fabrics for ribbons came from Asia, so they represented something different than the norm in places like England, France and Germany.

Over time, ribbons became associated with people who lived a luxurious lifestyle. They were a sign of nobility. It wasn’t until the 1800s that ribbons became more commonplace as the fashion industry decided to use ribbons to decorate women’s clothing.

Today, there are, of course, a wide variety of ribbons, but perhaps the most sought after ones are those people have to work for– in other words, ribbons which get awarded to people for participating in an activity or event and/or winning a competition.

If you ask around, you’ll probably hear tales from friends of competitions they entered, especially when they were younger, to try and win the coveted 1st place ribbon. People tend to save the ribbons they’ve received, and many like to show them off to visitors.

Awards & More offers ribbons for almost any award ribbon presentation. Available in a nice variety of colors, Awards & More’s ribbons can be printed on with phrases or words you’d like them to say. For those who really like to stand out, consider the collection of Rosette-style award ribbons featuring a rosette top with a center button and streamers below. They look sharp!

On the Awards & More website, you can find ribbons here:

A Customized Gift Hits Closer to the Heart

Customized GiftsAwards & More offers a variety of customizable gifts. Why give someone a customized gift? Well, think of it this way: if you received mail addressed to “occupant” versus mail with your name on it, which one would go in the trash and which one would you most likely open and read and care about? The same goes for gifts. Customized gifts are so specific to a person that they can’t help but ooh-and-aah over them. “You made this just for me?” they’ll say. “It’s perfect!”

If you can find a gift to give another person that matches their personality and/or interests, such as stemware for wine drinkers or phone cases for those who can’t live without their phone, then you’re going to please them. Furthermore, if you customize the gift with a picture or graphic that’s relevant to them, they’ll appreciate it even more. The best thing you can do, however, is to put their name on the gift, because their name represents them. It’s something they use to show the world who they are. Awards & More is often asked to put a person’s name on a customized gift.

What’s in a name? Though we don’t choose our names, they become our badges. Our names convey to others information about our class, education level and ethnic origin. They can also have something to do with the professions we choose to pursue. For instance, have you ever met a cardiologist with the last name Hart? Or a dentist with the first name Dennis? In ancient times, the Romans had an expression “nomen est omen,” which translates into “name is destiny.”

Giving a customized gift from Awards & More, complete with a person’s name on it, ensures that the person won’t soon give it away or sell it in a garage sale. Why? It has their name on it. People tend to keep and cherish things they receive with their name on it. Ask around and you’ll find this to be true of friends and family members.

Earn Brownie Points With the Perfect Gift For Your Boss

Boss's Day Did you know Boss’s Day is observed in the U.S., Canada, and Lithuania? Not sure how Lithuania got involved, but suffice it to say anywhere there are bosses, there’s likely some sort of day to celebrate them.

In the U.S., Boss’s Day is typically observed on or around October 16. In 2016, it’s October 17, which is a Monday, since most people wouldn’t be working at an office job on the weekend. Anyway, Boss’s Day is a day to thank the boss for being good or great to you and your fellow employees.

Boss’s Day got its modern-day start around 1958 when a secretary working for an insurance company in Illinois wanted to honor her boss. She picked October 16 since it happened to be her father’s birthday, in case you were wondering how the date got chosen. Oh– she was working for her father at the time. By 1962, the governor of Illinois officially proclaimed the day. Then, in 1979, Hallmark Cards started offering Boss’s Day cards, and from there it really took off.

Besides being celebrated in the U.S., Canada and Lithuania, as mentioned before, Boss’s Day is not limited to those three countries. There are Boss’s Days in Australia, India, Ireland, and Egypt as well.

If you would like to honor your boss this Boss’s Day, or perhaps for their birthday or some other special occasion, Awards & More offers a nice variety of customizable executive gifts. How about a nice Globe Pen Set? This elegant spinning, frosted world globe comes with a silver pen and business card holder on a black finish base, and can be presented to your boss in a deluxe velour-lined presentation box. There’s also the elegant crystal diamond-shaped paper weight, which can be laser etched with your boss’s name on it. Finally, consider the American walnut book clock with its laser engravable solid brass plate which can handle up to 40 letters.
