Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving has got to be my favorite holiday. There is no pressure to buy gifts but just as much food and family as Christmas. It’s a low pressure, low stress holiday for me. Last year at this time, my husband and I were battling two sick toddlers. Running noses, tears, cuddles and sleep. This year, we are healthy and happy and excited to eat some turkey. Which gets me thinking…why do we only tend to enjoy wonderful, tasty turkey one time a year? Stuffing that makes your mouth water, mashed potatoes drizzled in gravy! And all this….just once on a Thursday in November. Maybe, if we are lucky, we do turkey instead of ham at Christmas. But really, why just at Thanksgiving?? It boggles my mind. And I’m guilty of it too! I don’t ever think to make turkey dinner and enjoy the leftovers in September..or May..or January. It’s funny how we do things the same so much that we do things without even thinking about them. Well, I’ve thought about it and I’m doing turkey dinner more often.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!

Elves are on vacation!!

Like any business, there are “seasons” and for us, June is our season. The school year is coming to an end and anxious kids and staff are preparing for summer. Sports teams are closing out their springs seasons just as the hot weather begins to creep in. And as things begin to wrap up, achievements, goals and accomplishments are recognized. Schools award the top scholars and achievers throughout the school year. Sports teams award their players for a great year and their wins. And we are busy at work, making each accomplishment, achievement and win special and important. We’ve assembled and personalized dance, baseball, soccer, tennis trophies. We’ve engraved plaques for personal bests in Education, Boy Scouts, Volunteer orgs and more. Each one, representing a major milestone in an individual’s life. We are proud of that and are happy to do be able to be a part of it.

But with every busy season comes a well deserved break. So, our exhausted elves will be off next week
July 3-July 9
for that well deserved break.

Highschool Memories

Enfield is my hometown and although I broke away for a couple years to South Florida, I returned to the place I had spent my childhood. I also returned to the business I had grown up in.
Flash forward, almost 20 years out of high school, now grown with children of my own and something happened recently that made me reflect. A great high school friend came in to purchase trophies for his son’s soccer team. WOW! Talk about flashback. How cool was it, that this person whom I shared amazing high school memories with, is now a Dad and has kids of his own. And he’s shopping in our store and supporting his local community and a longtime friend. I guess my point is that while it feels good to shop local, it feels really great to WORK local too.

Faux Stone and Acrylic Plaque

Traditionally, you may see a plaque presented with a brass plate that sits on top of a wooden board. While still a top seller, we are starting to see new materials being used. One of our customer favorites is our Faux Stone and Acrylic plaque. The faux stone is gray and looks like a real slab of chiseled stone. An acrylic floating plaque sits on top and makes a stunning contrast to the stone. Engraved logos and text engrave on the acrylic to a beautiful white finish which creates a unique alternative to traditional brass engraved plates. This plaque would make an impressive presentation to honor a Home Contractor or to thank a building supply company for their sponsorship, just to name a few.

Available in two sizes, 8″ x 10″ and 9″ x 12″. Shown here with an additional, full color logo plate. Available by request. FAP Email me today for more information or to place your order for our Faux Stone and Acrylic Plaque.                        Becky@awards-more.com

Fantasy Football Champion 2016-2017 Season

Dave, Lumberjacks Manager, receives his award from the league commissioner and Awards & More owner

Dave, Lumberjacks Manager, receives his award from the league commissioner and Awards & More owner

We end another season of Awards & More Fantasy Football with a new Champion. Please give it up for Dave “Lumberjacks” Forrest who led his team to victory through a jaw clenching season.  With QB Drew Brees in his corner, the Lumberjacks chopped their way to the top and to smell the sweet aroma of victory.  Congratulations Dave!! And for his efforts, Awards & More will add Dave and the Lumberjacks to our perpetual Fantasy Football trophy, Dave receives his very own to proudly display at home. And like any good champion, a belt fit only for a Lumberjack.  See Dave posing in our A&M championship belt.

Another successful year!

Another successful year!

Thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s league.  We hope to do it again next year and hope to see you on the field.  Happy Fantasy!!!

Bring on the Fantasy!!!

We are just over a week a way from the start of the 2016 NFL season. So of course that means we are just over a week away from the start of the 2016 Fantasy Football season. Ahhh, something about football season makes me excited. The chill in the air, the lazy couch Sundays, the gatherings with friends over wings and beer. So much to look forward to. And this year, like that past 2, we are finalizing our teams in the “Awards & More Fantasy Football League” I had a newborn and a 1.5 year old last year so I wasn’t able to dig my heels in like the previous year, which only has lit a fire in me. “Victorious Secret” is out for blood! Keep posted here with our weekly updates and league standings.

Fantasy Football

With any good Fantasy Football league, you MUST have a trophy. Now we have seen all kinds, from toilet seats to bull balls so there is nothing that will surprise us. Start thinking now, from a champion’s perspective. What do YOU want to win? Do you want to see your name on a golden cup? Or maybe you want your picture on a plaque? How about a top notch, quality Championship Belt?? Not like the others you have seen on the internet. These are stunning in person and take the title of Champion to a whole other level.Championshop Belt

Make the Dorm feel like Home

Do you have a student starting college this September? Have you begun working down the dorm room checklist? I remember the summer before my first semester at college. Back then I think it was Pace, not Costco that had us buying cheetos by the bulk. Picking out sheets, towels, laundry detergent. Everything I needed to thrive on my own, as an adult.
One thing you may not have thought of but that can make a huge difference is dorm room decor. Just a few small items, cleverly placed, can make any room feel like home. Our lath boxes are the perfect size for just this thing. Most measure about 6″x8″ and can be displayed on a shelf, table or nightstand. Or, hang a few up in a group on the wall. Either way, they can be just what your student needs when that home sick feeling creeps in. Pick one with an inspirational note or one that makes you laugh. You can’t go wrong with any of our choices. Add a coaster for those many cups of coffee and magnet for the mini fridge and you have the perfect “Off to School” gift for the scholar in your life. See these additional items below that would be great in any home or dorm room. To order or for more details, email me at Becky@awards-more.com

Puzzle Pieces for Wall Art or Awards

 Puzzle piece display
A Puzzle is defined as:

“A set of irregularly cut pieces of pasteboard, wood, or the like that forms a picture or design when fitted together.”
That is the perfect way to describe our puzzle piece collection.  There are over 200 unique designs to choose from and the line of personalized pieces are available right in our store.

Puzzle piece your family and friends together with this fun wall art! Choose from frame pieces, quote pieces, and now a new line of clock pieces. Add to your wall art display as new little ones arrive, graduations occur or a wedding.  Each piece is interlocking into the next so the ability to grow your display is limited only by wall space and imagination.  I have one hanging in my dining room proudly displaying my wedding day, the birth of my son and the birth of my daughter, along with a song lyric piece.  I love how it represents all the pieces of our lives fitting together to create this one blessed life. Each piece compliments and highlights the other perfectly.

Another unique way to use our puzzle pieces are for yearly awards. A customer of ours has a yearly fundraiser and the organization likes to recognize the sponsors with a custom award. Many of the sponsors proudly display their plaques, acrylics and other varieties of awards they have received. But none are as unique as the puzzle pieces.  Each year, they receive a new puzzle piece of a different color, representing a different year. As they continue to donate and support, they continue to receive a new puzzle piece each year.  What an awesome way to show your sponsors what an important piece of the puzzle they are.

5 Wedding Invitation Etiquette Tips

snippy

When you’re planning a wedding, there are many things you’re going to encounter for the first time. This includes wedding invitations. Sure, you’ve likely received some wedding invites in your day, but that doesn’t make it any easier to know the proper etiquette for creating and sending them yourself!

Have no fear! Today, we’re going to review some wedding invitation etiquette tips with the help from our friends over at Martha Stewart Weddings.

Let’s get to it!

  1. Give your guests some notice

As far as timelines for sending out save-the-dates and wedding invitations, here are some simple tips from our blog for you. While save-the-dates aren’t mandatory, they are a nice way to help people plan ahead, especially if you’re having a destination wedding, or if your guests will have to travel a long distance to your wedding.

  1. Don’t be afraid to be creative, but don’t forget the important information

As the times change, so do the options for wedding invites. Whether you decide to send your wedding invites via email or a more creative way, make sure all the important information is included in the invite – like who’s getting married, when and where!

  1. Keep your invites simple

While many tend to go overboard these days, the only information you should put on your wedding invitations are the full names of the couple getting married, the hosts of the wedding, the location of the wedding and the time. Leave out the “no children” as it’s implied by the names on the invite, as well as where you are registered.

  1. Don’t use abbreviations

Contrary to what many think, you should always spell out “Street”, “Post office Box” and “Apartment” when addressing your invitations. Same goes for cities, states and house numbers under 20. Go ahead and keep “Mr. and Mrs.” abbreviated!

  1. Address the envelopes correctly

Spell out the names of your guests on the outer envelope. Married couples should be addressed as “Mr. and Mrs.” with the husbands first and last name. For an unmarried couple who live together, the names should be written on two lines. For professional titles, use them! For example you would address a doctor and her husband like this: Doctor Who and Mr. Michael Sharp. If the husband is the doctor, address the envelope as “Doctor and Mrs.” For a single woman, address her envelope with “Ms.” unless she’s under 21, in which case, use “Miss.”
