Fantasy Football Wrapup: El Rooster takes the title

Another terrific season of Fantasy Football has wrapped and Awards & More is now feverishly keeping up with the influx of Fantasy Football Championship trophies, each needing a new winner’s name added.  Superbowl is just around the corner and folks are planning their holiday feasts and calling fives on their preferred seating for the big game.

We have our very own champion to announce as well. El Rooster (Everett D.) has taken the title this year as the Champion of the Awards & More Fantasy Football League. It was a close season with Steelers Sixcess (Jacquelyn G.) coming in second and Make America Gronk (Kevin S.) coming in third.

They all played a great game and commend them for their wins.  Congrats to you!!  Oh, if you are wondering, I came in 9th. I try to even out the score and take a lesser place. That way everyone has a fair and fun time, LOL!!

Thanks to all our players for their participation. A Fantasy Football league is only as good as it’s players and we have some of the best.  We come together from all over the country to share in a common interest and hobby. It doesn’t matter who we are, what we do, how much we make, what gender/race/sexual preference we may have. What matters is that we are here for football, we are here to have fun, and we are here to win. Love, passion and the competitive spirit is what this really is all about. Let’s not forget that and we will see ya at the Super Bowl!!

Let’s Talk Recognition

So often I get asked, “what do you do?” and my usual reply is “I work at Awards & More, we create custom awards and personalized gifts for all occasions.” And this response works, it communicates what we do on a daily basis. But it doesn’t give the big picture of what we do and it’s this big picture that is, to me, the bigger idea.

Have you ever thought about what it is to recognize someone? To award someone or gift someone? A lot of times, actually most of the time, our emphasis is on what we are gifting, what we are awarding; a giant golden cup to the winning sports team, a wooden plaque made from the rarest mahogany wood on the planet, an optical crystal chalice that heals the sick when touched by the sunlight. OK, maybe some slight exaggeration there but my point is that we emphasize what the recipient is receiving rather than what the recipient has done. I am guilty of it too, I spend time crafting blog posts and social media posts about our latest and greatest products, what we have on special, what is coming out soon. But do I spend enough time acknowledging the people behind these recognitions? The achievers, the winners, the champions that make my job possible. We are flooded with news everyday of what’s wrong with the world, what’s happening to our country, you’ll never believe this or that…. but not enough are we shown the incredible achievements, accomplishments and wins of this same world.

“Giving recognition is a powerful means of rewarding effort, saying thank you, providing a sense of belonging to something important, building loyalty, and encouraging positive performance”

So I invite you to share. Share with me and all of us, your accomplishments, achievements and wins. Share with us the wins of others, your neighbors, your family, your friends.  Use our page as a place to celebrate.  Recognition, by definition, must be done by someone other than the achiever.  Be the spreader of this good news, be the catalyst that releases this news to the world.  Have you been in to place an order within the last 12 months? Share what you bought, who was it for? What did they do? What was the reason you came in to celebrate this person? The world can seem like a pretty grim place sometimes, but I can always find a reason for it all when I work with a customer on a special award for an inspiring person who has done an amazing thing.

90 days of recognition

The. Last. 90. days!  All that happened in the last 90 days!! That’s awesome and amazing and inspiring all in one! So please, join me in celebrating those in your life that are making moves, achieving goals and getting stuff done. We need more of that and I promise to bring more of that too in this new year.

Personalized Pillows make Perfect Presents

“Personalized Pillows make Perfect Presents” say that 5 times fast! Not so easy, but you know what is easy? Getting your very own personalized pillow! Check out 2 that I made as Christmas gifts for my husband.  Each year, I try to find the perfect gift for him from our boxer Pina. She was our first baby and as our little ones soak up all our time, we have to remember our first born, LOL. So, I created this Boxer pillow. I used a boxer silhouette and added an adorable saying I came across online. Using dye sublimation, we transferred the artwork over to these light gray toss pillows. They look adorable on our couch. PIna pillow jpg

For the second pillow, I also used a silhouette and this one has an interesting story. I was searching around my clip art site and came across the silhouette of two kids holding hands. I had to do a double take because this silhouette was the spitting image of my children! I mean, to the T! My daughter has unruly, curly hair which couldn’t be anymore obvious in this clip art. Seeing it, I just knew I had to do something with it. So, I instantly thought to do another pillow to go along with the boxer one I had created. Again, I added an adorable quote and ta-dah! The cutest pillow I think I have ever seen (but hey, I’m a bit partial) Brother sister pillow jpg

Think about what you would create on a pillow. Maybe you would want to put your initials or monogram to toss on your bed, or maybe a picture of you and your loved ones. Perhaps you are a knitter, crafter or sports enthusiast and want a pillow depicting that. Whatever you can imagine, we can create. I always say, you are only limited by your imagination.  Email, call or stop in today to inquire about our Personalized Pillows.

My Journey into Public Speaking

Since July of 2017, I have been on a journey into the world of public speaking. I took a leap and joined the Speaker Sisterhood, a community of women who want to discover, awaken and create their voice through the art of public speaking. I became a member and formed relationships with some amazing women, developed confidence in myself and my speaking abilities and gained a whole new perspective on the world. I recently gave a speech at a club meeting talking about my speaking journey and where it has led me. I would love for you to watch and hear my story.

My Speaker Journey

What has come of this journey is what I am so excited to share!! And sometimes we don’t always have time to watch a video so I’ll just tell you here because I’m bursting at the seams.  Starting in just a few short months, I will launch an Enfield, CT Chapter of the Speaker Sisterhood. I want to give other women the chance and opportunity to discover more about themselves and to start a public speaking journey of their very own. Our club will meet two times per month, date and location information will be coming soon. I wanted to share this news because I want to give you the opportunity to think about it. Think about you, your life, your future, your skills, your talents, your weaknesses and your potential. Think about improvement, betterment, and progress. Think about change, choice and challenge. Think of all these things over the next weeks. Keep a look out for my future posting and announcements and when it comes time, think about what makes sense for you. This experience has truly changed my life and I am certain that it can do the same for you. Reach out if you have any questions, anytime and keep posted for all good info coming soon!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving has got to be my favorite holiday. There is no pressure to buy gifts but just as much food and family as Christmas. It’s a low pressure, low stress holiday for me. Last year at this time, my husband and I were battling two sick toddlers. Running noses, tears, cuddles and sleep. This year, we are healthy and happy and excited to eat some turkey. Which gets me thinking…why do we only tend to enjoy wonderful, tasty turkey one time a year? Stuffing that makes your mouth water, mashed potatoes drizzled in gravy! And all this….just once on a Thursday in November. Maybe, if we are lucky, we do turkey instead of ham at Christmas. But really, why just at Thanksgiving?? It boggles my mind. And I’m guilty of it too! I don’t ever think to make turkey dinner and enjoy the leftovers in September..or May..or January. It’s funny how we do things the same so much that we do things without even thinking about them. Well, I’ve thought about it and I’m doing turkey dinner more often.

Elves are on vacation!!

Like any business, there are “seasons” and for us, June is our season. The school year is coming to an end and anxious kids and staff are preparing for summer. Sports teams are closing out their springs seasons just as the hot weather begins to creep in. And as things begin to wrap up, achievements, goals and accomplishments are recognized. Schools award the top scholars and achievers throughout the school year. Sports teams award their players for a great year and their wins. And we are busy at work, making each accomplishment, achievement and win special and important. We’ve assembled and personalized dance, baseball, soccer, tennis trophies. We’ve engraved plaques for personal bests in Education, Boy Scouts, Volunteer orgs and more. Each one, representing a major milestone in an individual’s life. We are proud of that and are happy to do be able to be a part of it.

But with every busy season comes a well deserved break. So, our exhausted elves will be off next week
July 3-July 9
for that well deserved break.

Exhausted staff

Email and phone will always be checked as well as our Facebook page. So leave us a message or give us a call, and we will be happy to help while we are closed.

To call and leave a message: 860-741-2345  voicemail will be checked periodically

Thanks for a great season!!

Highschool Memories

Enfield is my hometown and although I broke away for a couple years to South Florida, I returned to the place I had spent my childhood. I also returned to the business I had grown up in.
Flash forward, almost 20 years out of high school, now grown with children of my own and something happened recently that made me reflect. A great high school friend came in to purchase trophies for his son’s soccer team. WOW! Talk about flashback. How cool was it, that this person whom I shared amazing high school memories with, is now a Dad and has kids of his own. And he’s shopping in our store and supporting his local community and a longtime friend. I guess my point is that while it feels good to shop local, it feels really great to WORK local too.

Faux Stone and Acrylic Plaque

Traditionally, you may see a plaque presented with a brass plate that sits on top of a wooden board. While still a top seller, we are starting to see new materials being used. One of our customer favorites is our Faux Stone and Acrylic plaque. The faux stone is gray and looks like a real slab of chiseled stone. An acrylic floating plaque sits on top and makes a stunning contrast to the stone. Engraved logos and text engrave on the acrylic to a beautiful white finish which creates a unique alternative to traditional brass engraved plates. This plaque would make an impressive presentation to honor a Home Contractor or to thank a building supply company for their sponsorship, just to name a few.

Available in two sizes, 8″ x 10″ and 9″ x 12″. Shown here with an additional, full color logo plate. Available by request. FAP Email me today for more information or to place your order for our Faux Stone and Acrylic Plaque.                        [email protected]

Fantasy Football Champion 2016-2017 Season

Dave, Lumberjacks Manager, receives his award from the league commissioner and Awards & More owner

Dave, Lumberjacks Manager, receives his award from the league commissioner and Awards & More owner

We end another season of Awards & More Fantasy Football with a new Champion. Please give it up for Dave “Lumberjacks” Forrest who led his team to victory through a jaw clenching season.  With QB Drew Brees in his corner, the Lumberjacks chopped their way to the top and to smell the sweet aroma of victory.  Congratulations Dave!! And for his efforts, Awards & More will add Dave and the Lumberjacks to our perpetual Fantasy Football trophy, Dave receives his very own to proudly display at home. And like any good champion, a belt fit only for a Lumberjack.  See Dave posing in our A&M championship belt.

Another successful year!

Another successful year!
