Ribbons Are Useful For a Variety of Occasions

April 27th, 2016

Awards & More knows that people love receiving recognition for a job well done. Awards & More supplies many people with ribbons, which can be used to signify 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, etc.

Ribbons are something a team leader, coach or person in charge of a group can give out to participants to show they performed well at things like sports, academic achievement, and/or sales.

In modern times, ribbons got their start in England during the Middle Ages. At the time, merchants would travel from city to city across Europe selling exotic ribbons made from silk. They were considered luxury items of the day because very few people had them or could afford them. Additionally, the fabrics for ribbons came from Asia, so they represented something different than the norm in places like England, France and Germany.

Over time, ribbons became associated with people who lived a luxurious lifestyle. They were a sign of nobility. It wasn’t until the 1800s that ribbons became more commonplace as the fashion industry decided to use ribbons to decorate women’s clothing.

Today, there are, of course, a wide variety of ribbons, but perhaps the most sought after ones are those people have to work for– in other words, ribbons which get awarded to people for participating in an activity or event and/or winning a competition.

If you ask around, you’ll probably hear tales from friends of competitions they entered, especially when they were younger, to try and win the coveted 1st place ribbon. People tend to save the ribbons they’ve received, and many like to show them off to visitors.

Awards & More offers ribbons for almost any award ribbon presentation. Available in a nice variety of colors, Awards & More’s ribbons can be printed on with phrases or words you’d like them to say. For those who really like to stand out, consider the collection of Rosette-style award ribbons featuring a rosette top with a center button and streamers below. They look sharp!

I didn’t realize that ribbons were a sign of nobility. After reading this, it makes sense that they would be something to cherish. I’ll have to get some ribbons for my basketball team after the season.
